The Three Sisters and a Train is 12.00
miles on the road with hilly
terrain.
The starting point for this route is: Downtown YMCA
Comments about this route:
Minnekahda loops and can be run in either direction. It's hard either way - relax and enjoy!
The route:
- Turn LEFT out of the Y parking lot and follow 6th to Walnut
- Turn LEFT on Walnut and go over the Walnut Street Bridge
- Keep going straight across the bridge and climb Forest Avenue
- Stay on Forest, passing the Fire Station on your right
- Bear LEFT on Mississippi Avenue
- Turn RIGH on Mt. Vernon and head uphill
- At the bottom of Mount Vernon, several streets intersect - continue straight onto Dartmouth to Hixson Pike
- Cross Hixson Pike and bear RIGHT toward Il Primo
- Turn LEFT on Riverview Road in front of Il Primo
- Pass Riverview Park (the park will be on your right - it has water and bathrooms!) staying on Riverview Road
- At the corner of Riverview and Dorchester (just past the park), turn RIGHT onto Dorchester and go around the golf course loop (outer roads, just keep turning left at each dead end until you get back to Dorchester and then turn RIGHT to head back to Riverview Road.
- RIGHT onto Riverview to and stay on Riverview until the three-way split at Riverview, Sunset and Minnekahda
- STRAIGHT onto Sunset Road to Shady Cirle
- RIGHT onto Shady Circle to next intersection
- STRAIGHT onto Woodhill Drive which goes up and then back down to Hixson Pike
- RIGHT onto Hixson Pike to the next intersection and Minnekahda Road
- RIGHT onto Minnekahda and follow Minnekahda up and down (if this is your first time on this route, you may want to run it with someone who has done it before, or at least be prepared to "find your way". Besides being a little steep, Minnekahda winds a bit and goes through a "private" drive at one point. It's a relatively small neighborhood though, and probably hard to get truly lost - a great confidence builder all the way around!).
- Turn LEFT onto Edgewood Lane
- RIGHT onto Edgewood Cirlce
- Continue straight through across the next street (Minnekahda / Winding Way) onto Minnekahda
- LEFT onto Riverview Road
- Return to Riverview Park (water/bathroom break)
- Head up Young
- At the top of Young, turn LEFT
- Go one block, take a RIGHT on Sterling
- Sterling will take you to the GPS entrance (water fountain on corner of Sterling)
- Turn RIGHT off Sterling and head to Barton Avenue
- Take a LEFT on Barton and cross Veteran's Bridge
- Stay on Georgia until merges with Market
- Follow Market to Chattanooga Choo Choo
- Water at the Choo Choo
- Stay on Market to Main
- RIGHT on Main
- Follow Main to Carter
- RIGHT on Carter
- Take Carter back in to MLK
- LEFT on MLK and then RIGHT on Pine Street
- Follow Pine back to the Y
- That's it!
